Tim Duncan's Character Program
Tim and Amy Duncan have introduced the Tim Duncan's
Character Program. This new educational incentive program will
reward 3,000 Bexar County students each year who show outstanding character
traits and make good character choices. The program is currently operating
in both public and private schools in Bexar County for students in
kindergarten through 12th grade.
"The best way to describe this program is that we wanted to find a way to
reward students for doing good things and making good choices," said
Duncan. "All of the qualities that go into being a good person. Things like
respect, integrity and being part of your community are traits that we all
need to practice. We think by recognizing those who have these values we
can encourage more and more students to actively think about demonstrating
strong character on a daily basis."
Tim Duncan's Character Program is based on six key character traits: integrity, respect, dependability, fairness, caring
and civic responsibility. Students who show strong character are then rewarded with items ranging from Spurs, Rampage and
Silver Stars tickets to Character Program t-shirts to SeaWorld passes to achievement certificates. In addition, every
school in Bexar County received ten life-size posters of Tim Duncan to commemorate the first year of the program. During the
2002-03 school year over 3,000 area students are expected to receive rewards and recognition from the program, which is
funded by the Tim Duncan Foundation and the Spurs Foundation.
The program was designed to compliment the "Character Learn It! Live It!" school initiative program which was created by San
Antonio's Employer Education Council (EEC). The EEC is a community partnership of employers and educators under the Better
Jobs for San Antonio program.
"We were thrilled when Tim and Amy came to us with their idea," said Tom Frost, who serves as the Chairman of the EEC. "The
program that they've created is amazing and will have a great impact on our community."
